NORTH WEBSTER, Ind. (WOWO): About 2,300 new challenges for fishermen await at Backwater and Webster Lakes in Kosciusko County.
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources has stocked 2,300 muskellunge fingerlings into both lakes last week. 1,500 more muskie fingerlings will be released into the lakes in the spring. They're much too small to be caught at the moment, but eventually, they'll grow into fish that have earned the moniker “The Fish of 10,000 Casts”.
Muskie fishing has been a big part of Webster Lake since the early 1980s. The fish are being tagged to check their survival rates for the next 10 years.
The DNR says the fish that are released in the spring will likely have a better shot at survival.
