Muncie Man Pleads Guilty to Murder in 2014 Shooting Death

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) – A 26-year-old Muncie man has pleaded guilty to murder in a May 2014 shooting death.

A murder trial was expected to begin Monday for Joshua Michael Haskins, but he instead decided to accept a deal with prosecutors, which calls for a 45-year prison sentence. He's accused of fatally shooting 29-year-old Gary Barbour Jr. outside an apartment in the eastern Indiana city.

Police said the men were mutual friends of a woman and had a fight in her apartment before the shooting took place on a rear patio. Delaware County Coroner Scott Hahn said Barbour had been shot multiple times.

Haskins was arrested the day after the shooting. The Star Press (http://tspne.ws/1yd3VKI ) reports two acquaintances of Haskins are charged with attempting to help him avoid arrest.

Muncie is about 50 miles northeast of Indianapolis.
