Muncie Man Caught Impersonating an Excise Officer

24-year-old Joseph Garcia, of Muncie, was arrested for impersonating an Indiana State Excise Police officer during Muncie Gras Saturday night.

According to our partners in news at 21 Alive, Garcia approached an undercover excise officer, who was working Muncie Gras in plain clothing and asked for his identification. Garcia tapped the plain clothed officer on the arm and demanded to see his ID.

The actual excise officer asked why Garcia wanted to see his identification and Garcia responded with “I’m with Excise and I need to see your ID now”. The officer asked “You’re with the Indiana State Excise Police?” and Garcia responded “Yeah. I’m Excise. I need to see your ID.”

The real officer then arrested Garcia for impersonating a police officer, a Class D felony. He was taken to Delaware County Jail.
