Mother Facing Charges for Throwing her Baby

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A Fort Wayne woman is facing three felony charges for throwing her baby against a wall.

According to our partners in news at 21 Alive, 28-year-old Ashley Strong told police that she threw her three-week-old daughter because she wouldn’t stop crying.

The incident happened on January 10th. That’s when police got a call around 12:40 p.m., to the Colony Bay Apartments about a baby being dropped. At first Strong told police she woke up around 12:03 p.m., to her baby crying on the floor. After further questioning, police learned that Strong didn’t call for help until 12:40 p.m., almost 40 minutes later. When asked why she waited so long, Strong said she hadn’t slept and couldn’t get the baby to stop crying. After telling two more different stories to police, Strong finally admitted that she threw the baby against the wall. The baby’s head hit a wall. The three-week-old suffered a skull fracture and a brain bleed. She was last listed in critical condition.

Strong also tested positive for cocaine, she is now facing two class B-felonies for battery and neglect of a dependent, and a class D-felony neglect of a dependent.
