INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Indiana's power companies are making progress in fixing outages around the state but more than 10,000 customers remain in the dark.
Indianapolis Power & Light Co. reported it had fewer than 10,000 homes and businesses still without service Tuesday afternoon. Duke Energy had about 400 outages across Indiana.
The combined outages were down from more than 40,000 power outages Monday after temperatures plunged into the negative teens.
IPL says it could take until Thursday to restore all electricity. It blames most of the outages on Sunday's heavy snowfall on trees and power lines.
Numerous shelters have been opened around the state to help those without power or stranded travelers.
