FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A man reported to have a large knife barricaded himself into a home near Snider High School early this morning.

Fort Wayne police say they first got reports of a man walking around brandishing the knife on Fitchburg Place just before 5am. When they arrived, they evacuated everyone else in the home he had barricaded himself into, but the man refused to come out until a little after 7am. Police aren't saying yet whether or not he actually had a weapon, but the incident is still under investigation.

On Monday, October 05, 2015, at approximately 4:51 AM, the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the 1600 block of Fitchburg Pl on a report of a disturbance. Initial information indicated a male subject was armed with a large knife.

Officers arrived and determined that the above mentioned male was inside a home along with a few other people. Officers quickly evacuated everyone inside the home (excluding the male), and were told that the male was refusing to come out, and that there were possibly firearms inside the residence. Officers made brief phone contact with the male, who confirmed he was not coming out.

Officers repeatedly attempted to make contact with the male inside the residence without success. Because of the possibility of weapons, the Emergency Services Team (EST) and Crisis Response Team (CRT) were called to assist.

While the EST and CRT members were getting setup, other officers continued trying to call the male out of the house, and he finally complied at approximately 7:02am. The male is being taken to a local hospital for an evaluation.

At this time there is no information to be released regarding the claim of weapons. This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department. There is nothing further at this time.
