Missing Statue of Baby Jesus Returned to Franklin Facility

FRANKLIN, Ind. (AP) – A statue of the baby Jesus is back where it belongs.

The Indianapolis Star reports that the two-foot statue that had been missing from the Indiana Masonic Home's Nativity scene for five days was found Thursday morning on the grounds of the Franklin retirement home.

The weekend theft was the first time in the display's 11-year history that one of its figures has gone missing.

Indiana Masonic Home interim director Ed Fodrea had told the Daily Journal that the baby Jesus was an easy target because the figure weighed just 20 to 25 pounds. The other four statues in the display weigh about 80 pounds each and aren't as portable.

Fodrea says the statue cost $475 when it was purchased in 2003 but would have cost nearly $1,000 to replace.
