Mike Pence campaign gives cash boost to GOP governor candidate

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): New Indiana Republican gubernatorial candidate Eric Holcomb has received his first big infusion of campaign cash.

A state disclosure report filed Wednesday shows that Gov. Mike Pence’s state campaign committee gave nearly $1.25 million to Holcomb.

The money is important as Holcomb must quickly ramp up a statewide campaign against Democratic candidate John Gregg with the November election just about three months away.

Holcomb had expected a boost from Pence’s $7 million campaign fund, but transferring that money has been complicated by federal rules that now apply to Pence since he is Donald Trump’s vice presidential nominee.

Gregg had about $5.8 million in campaign money at the end of June and has kept raising money and running television commercials while Republicans spent three weeks reshuffling their gubernatorial ticket.
