Michigan man arrested in LaGrange after a K-9 unit found drugs, police say

LAGRANGE COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): A Michigan man was arrested in LaGrange on Thursday night after police say a K-9 unit smelled meth in his truck.

Travis Borgert of Sturgis, Mich. was arrested on preliminary felony charges of possession of meth, maintaining a common nuisance and operating a vehicle while intoxicated, according to the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department.

At about 11:30 p.m. Thursday, police pulled over a maroon Dodge truck at the intersection of SR 9 and CR 400 N in LaGrange for a traffic violation.

During the traffic stop, the officer noticed something off about the suspect, so a K-9 unit was used to search around the vehicle.

After sniffing the air around the truck, the dog alerted the officer it detected narcotics in the truck.

Police searched it and found meth and drug paraphernalia. Borgert also failed three field sobriety tests, the sheriff’s department said.

He was taken to LaGrange County Jail.
