Mental Health Facility Closes in Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): An Allen County Community Corrections facility for those who need help with substance abuse or mental health issues will close later this month due to budget constraints.

Kelley House, located on the 2700 block of Culbertson Street, will close January 30th. The closure will eliminate eight full-time employees and displace 14 residents who have been staying at the facility.

The therapeutic community first opened in October of 2010 and has helped nearly 140 offenders in the Allen County area. Funding was provided by grants from Indiana Department of Corrections, and operated on an annual budget of $1.3 million.

John Surbeck is the Allen Superior Court Judge and Chair of the Allen County Community Corrections Advisory Board. He ruled that Community Corrections worked hard to find resources to sustain the Kelley House.
