Memorial Coliseum Complex to Add Veterans Plaza


Work is set to begin to for a $16.4 million Veterans Plaza at Memorial Coliseum.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): By November, Memorial Coliseum will become even more of a monument to veterans.

General Manager Randy Brown says its part of the  $16.4 million expansion of the expo center. The Veteran's Plaza will be take on a more prominent role on northwest side of of the complex. 

“It's another step of that evolution of making the facility so its vibrant for years to come. But, again, with that focal piece – the veteran.”

The area near the USS Indiana anchor will include a relocated eternal fire and a newly refurbished fighter jet.

Brown says the F-84 fighter jet belonged to the based commander at Fort Wayne's Air National Guard base. Mechanics and other airmen have been invited to participate in the renovation of the aircraft.

The project should be completed this fall in time for a Veterans Day re-dedication.
