FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) – McMillen Health is helping to open the first health education center in India.

Raja Saboo in Chandigarh, India called Dr. Holli Seabury, CEO of McMillen Health, after visiting the now-closed Ruth Lily Center for Health Education in Indianapolis.

Saboo, previous President of Rotary International, admired the concept of teaching children how to care for their health. It brought him the desire to bring a hands-on experience to children in India.

After speaking with Saboo, Seabury sent him a video of the McMillen Health. Saboo then received permission from Chandigarh’s city administration to continue the project.

The city of Chandigarh is planning to send two experts to visit McMillen Health. Dr. JS Thakur, a professor of Public Health at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, and Dr. Atul Sachdev, a gastroenterologist and hospital administrator, will be in attendance.

Thakur and Sachev will be at the health center from June 19 through 22, learning how the center operates and how to plan a similar center in India.

Researchers in India see the need for health education to address issues such as drug abuse, tobacco use, risky sexual behaviors, hygiene and nutrition.
