Mayor Proposes Changes in Legacy Review Process

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): How Fort Wayne distributes “Legacy Funds” could be changing. 

Mayor Tom Henry says a seven-member panel will review requests.

The committee will including members of the administration team, city council and two citizens selected by the Mayor and City Council.

Recommendations will then be presented to the Mayor and City Council from the group, based legacy fund guidelines.


The plan will be introduced Tuesday in city council. It could be approved as early as Aug. 26. 

According to a press release: 

Legacy funds come from the City Light Lease Settlement reached between the City of Fort Wayne and Indiana Michigan Power; and the Fort Wayne Community Trust, established by the City over 30 years ago using a portion of the annual Light Lease payments. The funds are designed to provide catalytic investment, leverage additional resources, and directly benefit residents of Fort Wayne.
