Mayor Highlights Importance of Education

Proclaims “College Completion Counts Week”

PRESS RELEASE:

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry today joined education partners to discuss the importance of education and to present a proclamation, “College Completion Counts Week.” The proclamation recognizes the upcoming College Completion Counts Conference to be held Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Public Safety Academy: Ivy Tech South Campus.

Participants at today’s event included Leonard Helfrich, Talent Initiative Director, Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership; WGU Indiana Chancellor Allison Barber; and Ivy Tech Community College-Northeast Chancellor Jerrilee Mosier, Ed.D.

The College Completion Counts Conference is a collaborative effort of leaders from workforce development, economic development and educational institutions to attract students back to college by removing barriers that may have prevented their completion in the past. The conference will connect individuals who are interested in completion with resources, people and information that will aid their pursuit for success.

“Education is critical to the overall success of our region’s economy,” said Mayor Henry. “We want to be a leader in providing educational opportunities that lead to job creation and economic development.”
