Mayor: Gary Air Show to Return to Marquette Park in 2016

GARY, Ind. (AP) _ Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson says the Gary Air Show will return next year to the shores of the city's Marquette Park beach.

She told the Post-Tribune on Tuesday that the two-day show last weekend drew about 120,000 spectators in its return to Gary after a two-year hiatus. The show had moved to Fair Oaks Farms in Newton County last year but was canceled amid heavy rains.

The mayor said final financial numbers weren't available yet so it wasn't clear whether the show made any money.

Freeman-Wilson says Gary will try to obtain sponsors for the air show such as the beverage and food companies that support Taste of Chicago.

The mayor said planning for next year's show will begin next month.
