FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Around 400 people showed up for the March for Our Lives rally in front of the Allen County courthouse on Saturday, March 24th. Some of the speakers included Mayor Tom Henry, a local middle school teacher and several local teenagers according to the News Sentinel.

Mayor Henry states he doesn’t understand why government leaders haven’t enacted common sense gun control laws. “I don’t know if it’s the NRA”, “I don’t know if it’s the fear of not getting re-elected.” The Mayor explains he is part of a group of U.S. mayors calling for gun law changes. Some of which are: background checks on every gun purchase and get rid of loopholes with gun show purchases, prohibit civilians from buying assault rifles and high volume ammunition magazines.

Many of the attendees carried signs such as, “No weapons for war! No guns for teachers!”, “Protect children, not guns!” and “Kids go to school to learn, not die!” There were also a hand full of anti-gun control people in attendance trying to start up debates with the opposing side.

The national rally stems from the February 14th shooting at a Florida high school leaving 17 dead.
