NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. (AP): Manchester University says a $2.5 million gift from alumnus and his wife will help underwrite its $9 million Academic Center.
 
Mike and Sandy Jarvis of Franklin provided the gift announced Wednesday by the liberal arts school near Fort Wayne.
 
More than half of Manchester's academic programs are housed in the Academic Center, including business and accounting, social sciences, English, peace studies and modern languages. It opened in fall 2012.
 
Mike Jarvis founded Franklin Power Products, which produced engines, transmissions and electrical systems. After selling the company to Delco Remy, Jarvis served as president and manager of that company's Powertrain Division until 2004. He also was a member of Manchester's Board of Trustees for 10 years.
