Man with rifle eludes police

(Brian Davis/WOWO News)

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A portion of Taylor Street was shut down yesterday evening while police searched in vain for a man spotted with an “assault-style” rifle.

According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, witnesses called in about the man at 6:22pm after he fired several shots outside an apartment complex in the 4600 block of Taylor Street, damaging a vehicle but not hurting anyone. He fled into the woods nearby before police arrived.

Traffic on Taylor west of Ardmore Ave. was shut down while police searched the area, both on foot and in the air, but after several hours of searching they found nothing.

If you have any information on what happened, call the FWPD at 427-1222, Crime Stoppers at 436-7867, or use the anonymous “P3 Tips” app.

More than likely if and when this man is caught you will see he is in possession of the rifle illegally. he will be a prohibited person. Be afraid of the man not the rifle he used. Also likely he will be a gang member and a member of the 13%. There is a reason that concealed carry licenses are being issued at a record pace. It is because the police can;t be everywhere at the same time. AND the Supreme Court has ruled at least twice that a given officer has NO DUTY to protect a given citizen. It is fine with me if you do not want to legally own and carry a firearm. Just do not expect the rest of us to protect your back side when in trouble.

I’m not sure what an “assault-style” rifle looks like.

Is it just a guy in the act of assaulting someone with a firearm and therefore ANY Rifled firearm would fit that description?

Are there “Assault-style” Knifes, Bats, Box trucks?….
