Man Who Used Truck to Escape Indiana Jail Caught

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) _ Police say a man who escaped from a northern Indiana jail by using a bread delivery truck to smash through a security gate has been recaptured.
 
  St. Joseph County police Sgt. William Redman says 27-year-old Franklin Rice of South Bend was arrested Tuesday afternoon at a house in Bremen, about 25 miles south of South Bend. Redman says Rice escaped from the county jail in South Bend about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, using keys left in the truck’s ignition to start it.
 
  Redman says Rice and a female accomplice have been arrested and are being brought to South Bend for questioning.
 
  Redman says Rice was scheduled to be sentenced next week on a burglary conviction. He had been working in the jail’s kitchen area since November.
