PERU, Ind. (WOWO):  Indiana State Police report a man was hit by a van in Peru.  

Around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday night, a van driven by 67 year old Claud McCoy was traveling northbound on Bobtail Pike, south of Abraham Lane.  They say 30 year old Frederick Smith of Peru was walking north with his back to traffic on the edge of the pavement.  The van struck Smith on the passenger side of the vehicle, throwing him off the east side of the road.  

Smith was airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital with life threatening injuries.  The crash is still under investigation, but police say it was dark at the time of the crash.
