Man Shot During Struggle With Indianapolis Police Identified

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – The Marion County Coroner's Office says an Indianapolis man died from multiple gunshots after becoming involved in a struggle in which two police officers also were injured.

The victim was identified Monday as 36-year-old Mack Long.

Indianapolis police spokesman Officer Chris Wilburn said the shooting occurred Sunday afternoon when an officer pulled over a vehicle on a traffic stop and a man fled on foot. Wilburn says two officers caught up with the armed man after a short pursuit. Wilburn says the man tried to grab one officer's gun and shots were fired.

Another person who was in the vehicle at the time of the traffic stop wasn't hurt.

The Ten Point Coalition is organizing a meeting after nearby residents became upset over the shooting.
