Man pleads guilty to lesser charges in death of son

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) – A man has entered a guilty plea to lesser charges in the death of his 10-week old son, according to the Journal Gazette.

Julio Carrillo, 20, plead guilty on Friday in Allen Superior Court to felony neglect and battery.  The murder charge was dropped, per the plea agreement.  His plea deal calls for him to spend 30 years in prison.  Carrillo’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for January 17.

Last March, Carrillo told investigators his son became fussy after he had changed him.  He then picked him up and tripped, causing both of them to fall.  After doctors examined him, he was found to have suffered a multiple brain bleeds, a skull fracture and other injuries consistent with abuse.  He was alone with the child at the time of the incident.
