Man Fatally Shot by Police Monday

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Authorities say police in the Indianapolis enclave of Beech Grove have fatally shot a man who asked officers to shoot him and then raised a gun in their direction.

Police Maj. Tom Hurrle said officers were called to the scene Monday afternoon on a report of a possibly suicidal person.

Officers arrived and found a man believed to be intoxicated waving a gun on a porch and telling officers, “Shoot me.''

Hurrle says officers tried to get the man to drop his weapon but he continued to wave it while walking toward them. He says one officer shot him after he raised the gun in their direction.
