Man Dies Swimming In Warsaw Lake

WARSAW, Ind. (WOWO): A man died while swimming in Little Chapman Lake.

The man, who's name has not been released, was swimming in the Warsaw lake with a female family member. Around 7 p.m. Wednesday night, she noticed that he became unconscious in the water.

The woman tried to pull the man out of the water but was unable to. Another boat saw the struggle and came to help, but they were also unable to get him to safety. An off-duty Kosciusko County Police Officer was nearby, and he was able to get the man out of the water and to the shore.

The off duty officer started CPR until EMS arrived, but despite their best efforts were unable to save the man. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The name of the victim has not been identified, and is pending family notification.

Reports from police do not say if the man suffered a medical event in the water, and the incident remains under investigation.
