Man Charged with Stalking Indiana Legislator

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – A man running as an independent for an Indiana House seat faces charges that he stalked the district's current representative.

Police arrested 49-year-old John Couch at his Indianapolis apartment on Oct. 9 after Democratic Rep. Karlee Macer reported he had approached her in threatening ways six times over a six-month period.

Police say officers found Couch sleeping on his floor amid hundreds of business cards that said he was a state representative.

Couch tells The Indianapolis Star he's not guilty and can't afford the $60,000 bond to get out of jail.

Couch also faces felony forgery charges for the fake business cards and for giving a fraudulently address on his candidacy form.
