CELINA, Ohio (WOWO) – Celina police arrested a man claiming to work for the police department Friday.

Police received reports of a suspicious man displaying and wearing a handgun on his hip, according to our partners in news at ABC 21. Residents reported he was knocking on doors, claiming to work for area law enforcement. He said he was looking for a fugitive named Cory Gross.

Police were able to locate the man near the 600 block of Touvelle Street Friday and he was identified as Daniel Powers, 31. He was reportedly wearing a bulletproof vest at the time of his arrest, and was carrying a toy handgun, which police found hidden along with a holster in a nearby wooded area.

Powers faces a preliminary charge of impersonating a police officer and obstructing official business.

The Celina Police Department reports Powers does not, has never and never will work for them.
