Man Accused in Indiana Woman’s Shooting Death

CARMI, Ill. (AP) _ A man is being held in a southern Illinois on $2 million bond in the shooting death of an Indiana woman whose body was found in a cornfield.

Twenty-five-year-old Thomas Davidson was scheduled to make a court appearance Monday in Carmi in White County, along the Indiana border. Davidson is formerly of Carmi.

Sheriff Doug Maier says the body of 58-year-old Sandra Burkhardt was found Saturday near Crossville in Illinois, a day after she disappeared. She was last being seen leaving a grocery store in Indiana's Gibson County.

Maier says an autopsy Sunday showed that the woman from Poseyville, Ind. had been shot four times.

Indiana police arrested Davidson Saturday while investigating a string of burglaries in the area. Maier says authorities found Burkhardt's body with Davidson's help.
