Major Project for 469 Set to Start

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A two-year, $24 million dollar paving project is set to begin on 469 south of Fort Wayne.

In addition to pavement work, they'll also rehab bridges over the Snyder Ditch, St. Mary's River and U.S. 27.

INDOT says the actual work be from Winchester Road to US. 27.  But, the project  will limit traffic to one lane in both directions from Bluffton to Tillman Roads with speeds reduced to 55 miles per hour.

Ramps at interstate ramps at Winchester Road, will be temporarily closed, likely in the late spring.

If you are using that route Monday, traffic could be delayed or slowed by heavy equipment as they preparing work site place traffic controls.

Traffic restricted to one lane in each direction between S.R.1 and U.S. 30

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces that the $24.4 million pavement replacement project on I-469, from 0.57 mile west of Winchester Road to 0.85 mile east of U.S. 27, is scheduled to begin on Monday, March 9, weather permitting.

On Monday morning, on I-469 between Mile Marker 6/Bluffton Road to Mile Marker 15/Tillman Road, lanes in both directions will be restricted to one lane. Motorists can expect to see heavy equipment placing segments of temporary barrier walls.

Construction of crossovers in the medians will follow with completion later this year. The crossovers are being constructed in preparation of the bridge deck rehabilitation work over Snyder Ditch, the St. Mary’s River and U.S. 27.

After the crossovers are complete, traffic will be switched to the eastbound lanes, along with the closure of Winchester Road westbound ramps while the westbound lanes are constructed. Later this spring, traffic will be switched to the completed side, with the Winchester Road eastbound ramps closed followed by the construction of the westbound lanes.

The speed limit has been reduced through this construction zone to 55 mph.

This project involves the total removal of concrete pavement from the lanes and shoulders followed by the placement of asphalt, and rehabilitation of the three bridge decks.

Primco was awarded the two-construction season project for $24.4 million.
