Main Street to be Renovated in Downtown Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): In downtown Fort Wayne, the Main Street buildings that house some famous landmarks will soon get a renovation.

The entire block of Main Street that houses Fort Wayne's Famous Coney Island, Funich & Funich Insurance, as well as the former National Cigar Shop will get a complete makeover.

According to our Partners in News at 21Alive, the fronts of the stores will be reconstructed to help maintain the historic integrity of the area.

21Alive spoke with Jimmy Todoran, Operations Manager of Main Street Enterprises, who said the structures were built in 1860. Some of the units sat vacant for a number of years before the businesses moved in.

There's no timetable for the renovations, but all five buildings on the 100 block of Main Street will maintain most of their original features.
