Low Early Voter Turnout Reported in Allen County

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Voters in Allen County aren't exactly racing to cast their early votes this year.

In fact, turnout so far is barely over half that from this time in 2011. Through the first two weeks of early voting, 2,448 votes were cast through Monday. That includes walk-in voters and mailed-in ballots.

In the 2011 municipal election, 4,064 votes were cast in the same period. One positive is that early voting at the Ed Rousseau Center is up by 175 votes.

Allen County Director of Elections Beth Dlug tells our partners in news at 21Alive that they're not really sure why turnout is sagging so far. One thought is that maybe voters are waiting to vote at one of four Allen County Public Library satellite locations next week.
