BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) _ A Bloomington restaurant that has served thousands of Indiana University students and local residents for nearly 50 years is closing to make way for a new development.
The Waffle House is scheduled to shut its doors next Wednesday. Property owners Bud and Myra Powell are preparing to retire, and a new building housing a bank and other commercial space on its lower floors and residential units on upper floors will be constructed.
Restaurant manager Larry Prince tells The Herald-Times that many of the restaurant's longtime employees already have found other work. But he says it will be “business as usual'' until the restaurant closes next Wednesday.
Longtime customer Joyanne Hawkins says she'll miss the employees as much as the restaurant.
