Local Television Stations Sold

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): WPTA (Channel 21/ABC/CW) is being acquired by Quincy Newspapers, Inc. from Malara Broadcasting Corporation. Additionally, WISE (Channel 33/NBC/MyTV) is being sold from Granite Broadcasting Corporation to SagamoreHill Broadcasting. The acquisitions are subject to federal regulatory approval and expected to close later this year. WPTA will operate WISE under a shared services agreement. The stations currently operate in a similar fashion.

In a press release, Ralph M. Oakley, President and Chief Executive Officer of Quincy and a fifth generation family member of the company said,  “We are thrilled to acquire WPTA and to operate it and WISE…We are home town broadcasters, very involved in the communities and regions we serve.  We look forward to being in the Ft. Wayne market.  We have owned and operated WSJV (FOX) in the South Bend/Elkhart market for nearly 40 years and are very familiar with northern and northeastern Indiana.”

With other acquisitions, Quincy will now own and/or operate 23 stations in 14 markets, mostly in the Midwest. The company also owns two radio stations and daily newspapers in Quincy and Newton, New Jersey.

SagamoreHill Broadcasting is currently in four markets.
