Local Food Bank Collects Nearly 1,000 Frozen Turkeys for Thanksgiving

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Yesterday, Community Harvest Food Bank's Annual Turkey Rally raised $25,157 and 967 turkeys.

The food bank went above and beyond their initial goal of accumulating 600 turkeys from donors in the Fort Wayne area. Partnering with local Kroger stores, volunteers helped take in donations for a full 12 hours on Thursday.

Community Harvest says they distribute more than 250,000 pounds of food in Fort Wayne, and throughout nine counties in northeast Indiana, according to our partners in news at 21Alive.

The food will go to needy families in time for the holidays.
