Local developer donates $25,000 to cover burial costs for Holton Ave. homicide victims

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Bill Bean, real estate developer and Vice President of Hanning and bean Enterprises, is donating $25,000 to help cover the burial costs of the four victims killed in a quadruple shooting on Holton Avenue.

According to the Journal Gazette, when Bean learned that the two fathers of the victims, Contrall Harris and Lavalle Whitt, needed help paying for the funeral costs, he decided to step in.

He told the Journal Gazette, “I don’t know how you get over something like that. But even worse, not to be able to give them a proper burial and not have proper closure.”

Earlier this month, Pastor Carlton Lynch held a news conference for the two fathers at his church. He said the fathers were struggling to find the money needed to have a proper burial for their three children. Lynch said, until the money was provided, the funerals would be put on hold.

Bean tracked Lynch down and it was agreed that $25,000 would cover the costs of the burials for 17-year-old Traeven Harris, 37-year-old Consuela Arrington, 18-year-old Dajahiona Arrington and her unborn baby.

During the press conference, Whitt, the father of 18-year-old Dajahiona Arrington, talked about how Dajahiona was a straight A student. How she had a child at an early age and still earned her diploma. She “was due this week,” Whitt said.  “A coward took her from us.”

Contrall Harris, the father of 17-year-old Traeven Harris, said he would always remember his son’s smile. He said Traeven made the room brighter when he walked in.

Early Sunday, September 11, police officers responded to a home in the 300 block of Holton Avenue. When officers arrived, they found Traeven Harris, Dajahiona Arrington and Consuela Arrington dead.

The Fort Wayne Police Department has arrested Marcus Dansby in connection to the murders. He has been charged with four counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.
