Lines for Fort Wayne Santa Train Bring Changes

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) _ A Fort Wayne railroad group is trying to bring the long lines for its popular Santa Train under control.

The Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society has started an online ticketing system through which 75 tickets are sold for each hour of operation, plus 30 to 40 tickets sold for each hour to walk-in customers.

Society spokeswoman Kelly Lynch tells The Journal Gazette that some riders faced waiting in line for three hours last year. That's when about 3,000 passengers lined up on a first-come, first-served basis over three consecutive Saturdays.

The ride takes about 40 passengers per quarter-mile trip aboard two vintage cabooses with Santa. Lynch says with the new ticketing system the group hopes to keep lines to less than an hour.
