ROCHESTER, Ind. (AP) _ A man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for the fatal shooting of an 81-year-old woman during a break-in at her rural northern Indiana home.
A Fulton County judge ordered the sentence Monday for 25-year-old Roy Bell for the November 2011 attack on Wilma Upsall at the home near Rochester she shared with her daughter and son-in-law.
The judge convicted Bell of murder charges after a bench trial last month.
Tim Howard tells WNDU-TV he's satisfied with the sentence in his mother's death and he believes Bell and the two other men charged in the attack waited for his sister and brother-in-law to leave before breaking into the house.
Bell's sister told the judge she blamed drugs he had taken that day for the attack.
