Leader of Fort Wayne Drug Ring Sentenced to 25 Years

FORT WAYNE Ind. (WOWO): The leader of a major drug trafficking operation in Fort Wayne been sentenced to 25 years in prison.

According to the Journal Gazette, 43-year-old Charley J. Gonzalez III pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute cocaine, as well as possession of a firearm in connection with a drug trafficking crime.

Gonzalez is said to be one of the leaders who worked alongside Alejandro Luna, to supply the drugs. Their network was one of three drug trafficking operations that was broken up by the FBI Safe Streets Task Force in the spring of 2011. Luna will be sentenced this November.

A total of 40 federal indictments came after federal investigators broke up the three drug rings. The case was the largest the FBI had seen in the city of Fort Wayne.
