Large Indianapolis Building Fire Still Smoldering

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Firefighters remain at the scene of a smoldering blaze at an Indianapolis recycling facility two days after a huge tower of billowing black smoke over the city.

Fire officials say crews would check Monday whether they could use heavy equipment to move some of the tires, wood pallets and other materials inside the warehouse on the city’s west side.

Investigators haven’t yet been able to enter the building following the fire that started Saturday afternoon. City fire Capt. Rita Burris told reporters some roof work was being done that wasn’t to involve any heat process.

Federal investigators will be helping try to determine the fire’s cause. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives spokesman David Coulson says the agency’s involvement doesn’t indicate the fire is considered a criminal act.
