FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Police are investigating the cause of a large house fire in the Sycamore Hills subdivision this morning.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded around 2 o'clock this morning after one of the nine residents smelled smoke in the basement.

Once crews arrived they were able to help all nine people inside get out safely, but the first floor of the home collapsed. The family's dogs made it out safe, but the cat unfortunately, wasn't so lucky. The cause of that fire is still under investigation.
