Kosciusko County Man Injured in Forklift Accident

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): A Warsaw man is in serious condition after an accident involving a forklift.

Kosciusko County police were called to the Creighton Brothers Processing Plant on West Crystal Lake Road just after 11:00 a.m., Thursday morning, in reference to a man being pinned underneath a forklift. When crews arrived, police say 52-year-old Arnold Shepherd of Warsaw, was suffering injuries to both legs. Shepherd was immediately taken to the hospital in serious condition.

Upon further investigation, police learned that a semi, driven by Robert Carpenter, had initially backed into the loading dock area of the business. Carpenter noticed that he had backed the semi into the loading dock at a slight angle. He then proceeded to pull forward in an attempt to straighten the vehicle. At approximately the same time, Shepherd had begun to drive forward onto the open-end of the semi with a forklift. During the course of movements, the forklift fell from the trailer. Shepherd was subsequently thrown from the forklift and pinned underneath the 2,000 pound unit.
