Komets To Wear 8-Bit Style Hockey Jerseys Against Walleye

Komets will wear these jerseys on Nov. 21 in Toledo (Toledo Walleye/Instagram)

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The heated rivalry between the Fort Wayne Komets and Toledo Walleye will have quite a different look next month.

The Toledo Walleye announced on their Instagram page Thursday that, when the Komets play the Walleye in Toledo on November 21st, both teams will wear 8-Bit Nintendo-style jerseys for 8-Bit Night in Toledo. This is the Walleye's way of celebrating the 30th anniversary of the release of the original Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985.

Sports Illustrated reports that the teams can't refer to the Nintendo characters they are honoring, which are “a certain plumber and his spike-shelled nemesis”, for legal reasons.

If you want your hands on one of these jerseys, you'll have to win a game worn jersey in a live auction after the game at the Huntington Center. No word on if they'll be sold in stores.
