Komets AHL Affiliation to Change

DENVER (WOWO): The road Fort Wayne Komet players take to the NHL is changing.

The Colorado Avalanche announced today they'll partner with the American Hockey League's San Antonio Rampage.
The team had an affiliation with the Lake Erie Erie Monsters, in Cleveland, since 2007-08. The Komets are currently affiliated with Lake Erie.

The move comes as Lake Erie has linked with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Komets are currently in a one-year deal with the Avalanche. No word if the relationship will continue after this season. 


Komets President Michael Franke says the picture will come in to focus in the next few weeks. He says the relationships is good. But there are geographical consideration for the Avalanche.

According to a Avalanche press release, the Rampage have clinched the AHL’s West Division title this season and begin the Calder Cup Playoffs next week. 

The franchise is annually one the AHL’s top teams in attendance, having ranked among the top seven in the league for the last five seasons.
