BUNKER HILL, Ind. (AP) _ A former town court clerk in northern Indiana has been arrested on 11 counts each of theft and forgery for allegedly pocketing more than $14,000 in money orders used to pay traffic citations.
Indiana State Police say 27-year-old Carrenna Byers of Kokomo was arrested Wednesday on a warrant from Miami Superior Court.
Police say an audit by the State Board of Accounts revealed missing funds in accounts controlled by the Bunker Hill town clerk, and investigators discovered Byers had altered about 95 money orders totaling $14,346 last year and used the money for personal use. She was a clerk for the Bunker Hill Town Court at the time.
Byers was being held Thursday in the Miami County Jail on a $165,000 bond. It wasn't clear whether she had an attorney.
