KOKOMO, Ind. (AP): The city of Kokomo has purchased a former steel plant site that has undergone years of environmental cleanup and plans to use the land to try to reduce damage from future flooding. The sale of the Continental Steel Superfund site marked the end of nearly 10 years of discussions between city officials and Howard County. The city bought the property for $5,000 and purchased 54 flood-damaged properties in the area for $500 apiece.
