Kokomo Baseball Team Vows To Be Ready Despite Stadium Setback

KOKOMO, Ind. (WOWO): Project delays and lost FEMA grant money have set the future home of the Jackrabbits back about 5 weeks.

Despite the delays, Jackrabbits management says the summer college league baseball team will take the field May 30th. The field, seats, and other infrastructure are expected to be in place by then but the project delays will be seen as incomplete suites crown the stadium.

Jackrabbits business manager Jenna Plummer says they are all aware of the delays but the Jackrabbits are ready to play baseball, and they are confident they will be ready for the first pitch in 10 days.

The stadium initially had relied on $9.5 Million on FEMA money that was intended to be used for flood mitigation and green space. That money was unceremoniously yanked when federal officials learned about the plans to build the ball field.

Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight says a lawsuit about the funding is currently in the court process in Marion County.
