INDIANAPOLIS – A Noble County woman plans to buy a house after winning $120,000 on a Hoosier Lottery Scratch-off. Meranda Krontz of Kendallville had been actively trying to buy a house for a while when a big downpayment fell right into her lap.  

“I’m still in awe,” said Krontz. “I’m usually not this lucky.”

Krontz works as a cook at the Breakfast House, which is right next door to Joe’s Corner at 327 South Main Street in Kendallville, where she purchased her lucky ticket Sunday morning.  

Krontz actually bought her winning ticket with $5 in winnings from another Lottery ticket.

“I won $25, so I put $15 in my pocket and bought two more tickets, the second of which was the winner!” said Krontz. “Thanks, Hoosier Lottery!”

The game that paid off for Krontz was the $5 Double Platinum 20X Scratch-off.  She is the fourth person to claim a top prize on the game.  Two top prizes of $120,000 remain unclaimed at this time. 

Krontz claimed her prize at Hoosier Lottery Headquarters in Indianapolis Sept. 19.

The mission of the Hoosier Lottery is to return the maximum net income to the state in a socially-responsible manner. In fiscal year 2011, the Hoosier Lottery generated $188 million in net income which was used to significantly reduce the motor vehicle excise tax for all Hoosier drivers and also supported the pension funds for retired Indiana teachers, police and firefighters. Player prizes for the fiscal year totaled $495 million and $56 million was earned by Indiana retailers on the sale of Hoosier Lottery products.

Since its inception in 1989, the Hoosier Lottery has produced more than $4 billion in net income for the citizens of Indiana, nearly $1 billion in commissions and bonuses for participating Indiana retailers, and has paid out more than $8.7 billion in player prizes.
