Kelly: Hearing for players close to taking place…

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) _ Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly says he believes five football players who were investigated by the university for possible academic dishonesty are expected to have honor code hearings soon.

Kelly said Thursday on ESPN that the process has been moving forward and he believes the hearings “are close to taking place.''

He says he's been kept up to date by athletic director Jack Swarbrick, but is focusing on players on the field. The 16th-ranked Irish (1-0) face Michigan (1-0) on Saturday in the final scheduled game in their rivalry.

The university announced last month it would bench cornerback KeiVarae Russell, receiver DaVaris Daniels, defensive end Ishaq Williams and backup linebacker Kendall Moore during its investigation. The school added reserve safety Eilar Hardy to the list last week.
