Jeffersonville Fire Injures Firefighter, Tenant

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (AP) _ Sixteen families have been displaced following a fire in a Jeffersonville apartment building that injured a tenant and a firefighter.

The News and Tribune and WDRB-TV report the fire Monday night at the Executive House Apartments left a 70-year-old man in critical but stable condition in the burn unit at University of Louisville Hospital.

Jeffersonville Fire Chief Eric Hedrick says the injured firefighter, Capt. Doug Sneed, was released after treatment at the hospital for injuries he suffered when a ceiling fell on him in a stairwell.

Hedrick says three adults were rescued from the building's second story, and each received medical treatment at the scene.

Hedrick says the building suffered extensive smoke and water damage.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but foul play isn't suspected.
