FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Former Florida Governor and Republican Presidential Candidate Jeb Bush stopped by Fort Wayne Thursday.
Bush came to kick off IPFW’s lecture series with a speech on leadership, but he also focused on the state of things the U.S. while speaking with WOWO news before the event:
“There’s a higher degree of anxiety in this country than has existed in the past,” Bush said. “That’s a convergence of a change in our culture combined with a change in the institutions we used to rely on to get us through times of great change.”
Bush will speak to a packed crowd at the John and Ruth Rhinehart Music Center at 7:30pm. His speech is entitled “Leadership, Redefined: an evening with Jeb Bush.”
He also took a few minutes to meet with IPFW students. Sophomore Ben Bailey tells WOWO news he thinks Bush did a lot right in his campaign:
“I’ve been following the election from the start. I think Jeb Bush ran an honorable and true campaign.”
During his campaign, Bush notably clashed repeatedly with the eventual GOP nominee, Donald Trump. Bush says Trump has “redefined how to run for President,” but added “that’s not necessarily a leading indicator of leadership, which requires bringing people together to find a common ground.”
Bush went on to say neither Trump nor Hillary Clinton are necessarily fit for office, but did, however, say a good example of leadership is Trump’s running mate: Indiana Governor Mike Pence.
