IU Students Draw Attention to Suicide, Depression

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WOWO): Students at Indiana University are working to raise awareness about depression–the leading cause of suicide. With the help of his Iota Phi Theta Fraternity brothers, IU senior Richard Dixon organized a suicide awareness event Tuesday night.

The event gave people the chance to express their feelings and experiences with depression and suicide. Students also passed out surveys to freshman during Welcome Week. The survey was part of the student-driven ‘Toolbox Project‘. The project is supported by actress and activist Glenn Close. Close was in Bloomington to meet with researchers and students Tuesday evening.

Her foundation, ‘Bring Change 2 Mind‘, works to reduce the stigma of mental illness.
